Should I eat before getting a tattoo?
YES! you absolutely should eat before getting a tattoo. Eating will help maintain your blood sugar levels during the tattoo and give you the energy to get through it. A good practice is to bring some candy with you, just incase your blood sugar starts to drop. Make sure to also stay hydrated as well. Drink plenty of water before and during your tattoo session. this will keep your skin hydrated which allows the ink to penetrate better.
Do tattoos hurt?
Yes and no. Getting a tattoo can be described as getting a bad sunburn that someone is constantly scratching. Some places do hurt more than others due to nerves in those areas. Know your pain tolerance before going in and if you select a more painful area, just mentally prepare. the pain is a temporary experience while the art lasts a lifetime. The most painful places are the ribs, feet, neck, and any joint on the body (i.e. wrist, elbow, knee, etc…)
What should I wear?
Wear loose, comfortable clothing that won’t restrict access to the area being tattooed. If you are getting a tattoo in a sensitive area, make sure to wear something that will give you the ability to still cover up comfortably (don’t wear a sundress for a rib tattoo for an example). While getting tattooed, due to the shock your body is going through, you may become cold and start to shiver. bringing a blanket is a good practice incase this happens.
Can I drink beforehand?
NO! It is best to not drink alcohol 24-48 hours before getting tattooed. Alcohol impairs the immune system and can increase bleeding during the tattoo process.
Can I workout after getting my tattoo?
No. you must wait at least 2 weeks before heading to the gym. Your body will need to rest and heal after the tattoo session. Sweat and other contaminants in a gym setting can cause you to have issues with your healing if you do not wait.
Can I bring a friend?
Absolutely! its always good to have someone by your side holding your hand to help you get through it.
